Dear friends and colleagues,
It gives us great pleasure inviting all of you to attend the
“National Symposium on Prosopis: Ecological, Economic
Significance and Management Challenges” during 20-21
February, 2009.
This will be the first time one national level symposium is
going to be conducted specifically on one of the aggressive
invasive species, i.e. Prosopis juliflora and its associated
issues in Gujarat and we are working hard to make sure that
all delegates have the chance to learn about and experience
first-hand, and some of our pristine landscapes that has
been severely invaded by this species in recent past. The
Organizing Committee has been working meticulously to
develop a wide-ranging scientific program, and we are very
grateful to those of you who have suggested scientific
sessions. Our conference themes reflect our main intention
of planning this scientific event. Not least this is because
we are very much involved in conference organization, and
are offering participants the opportunity to join
post-symposium tour to the landscapes in Kachchh.
I hope this will be a very enlightening symposium, and an
important opportunity for all of us to meet, share research
and management issues related with P. juliflora and maintain
or initiate national collaborations. The host organization,
Gujarat Institute of Desert of Ecology very much looks
forward to welcoming you all to Bhuj.
Best wishes,
S. F. Wesley Sunderraj,
